The Psychological Study of Colonial Mentality Among Filipino Americans Thara A. Gagni Year: Senior Major: Nursing & Psychology Why are you interested in Filipino American Psychology? "Being a 2nd generation Filipino-American myself, I think it is interesting to learn how others like myself think. Are their perspectives the same? Do you have the same feelings about issues regarding our generation? Are the thoughts I have and opinions I have about Filipino-American common? Where do they stem from? Answers to these questions are not only interesting, but also important. I will always be a Filipino-American, so I feel that being involved in any education towards the topic is beneficial." What are your future plans? "My future plans are to first graduate from UIC College of Nursing. After that, I will be completing my Psychology degree from UIUC. Post-graduation, I plan on working a year or 2 as an R.N. In my spare time, I also plan on doing some charity work affiliated with the Philippines." What do you see yourself doing 5 years from now? "I see myself working full time as a nurse practitioner at some hospital in Chicago. Charity work is also going to be a part of my life, specifically Gawad Kalinga, an organization that raises money to build homes for the poorest of the poor in the Philippines. As weird as it sounds now, in 5 years I might actually be married and living in my own house! So crazy! =P" |
